CARP and CSS Design

CARP with CSS

This whole project I felt was easier than the lsat, and was relaxing as I was not under stress. I had time  to spare and this project helped me understand web a bit more and see how easy it can be sometimes. Even though all I did was follow directions given to me, I could see the page meld together. Below is listed a picture of a non Carp-ified webpage, to compare to the final version.

The first step was to create contrast. White and black are good, bur too bland, so I had to lighten colors to bring out and contrast the page. Many of the new colors actually had origins from the dog's coat and end up looking really nice together. Contrast makes a page more appealing to the eye, but what about the perfectionist side of everyone?

Alignment is important, and if done right, can result in a symmetrical form, that still pleases people. As far as words go, even spacing is important and the first version lacks this, as the first line is firmly off center. The dog eventually ends up in the margin but because of contrast, the two end up okay.

Repetition is the repeating of themes or figures, and webpage did not need that much. Really the only thing that was repeated, was the font, and some standard measurements of boundaries. A few color schemes also repeat, but they blend in so well I almost forgot that was an example of the idea.

Proximity is important as if one thing is to close to another, its gets hard to separate the two. The poem on the original page is too condensed and has a doge head right on top. When moved, the head and letters have breathing room and space to discerns phrases of literature.

In conclusion, CARP is everywhere and CSS designer is a great way to improve each point with new text format and alignment. I see that there are also applications to graphic design if a more complex project needed doing. CARP is a great set of rules to use when creating a logo or even drawing. Even this small pre made project helped me to see each step.
