Updated Film Reel

Updated 2020 Film Reel

Though I got a late start on my reel, the result was a new and improved compilation of shots featuring my newest work: Franklin's Cake. The reel had my short film, commercial, six shot project and even some convergence work from sophomore year. The reel used some basic no copyright music, but the selection I picked did fit the theme of the reel and the very contemporary feel. Though it was short it shows my brand of new, but quality filmmaker.

The theme throughout the video is trying to find the best looking shots and ones I am personally proud of. One such shot is the one where there is a sharp pan up, following the character as he rises from his chair, my first real experience where i could see my potential as cinematographer. The next was the shots of Franklin's cake where it was clear that all precautions regarding focus and ISO had been taken to ensure a good shot. This second time where I was behind a camera was significantly better and a personal favorite as I was given full charge of my camera and its operation.

The shots of the Yamaha commercial are featured not necessarily as a testament to my work in those shots, but the work I had put in behind the scenes. As a "art director" I was pivotal in two of the five main scenes in which I arranged with people beforehand on filming dates. The inclusion of Franklin's cake is also a-testament to that same work. For many of the lab scenes, or the shots of the ingredients by the bowl, I arranged for that location via email. I also located and coordinated with our actress and voice actor to complete the project to its fullest ability.

Finally, the editing was fairly simple, but if I had one thing to do differently, it would be to give myself more time and use my class time more effectively. This reel is still very small and does not show a huge amount of what I can do, but going forward i hope to see much more content in y film reels. This project is yet another example of how much i have improved and will hopefully be even better the next time I have work published.
