Semester 1 Reflection

This semester has been fun, enlightening, and has me excited for the new year. One of my first projects that I am now surprised that I admire. Last year I had only used photoshop for animation, which I hated, but this year was a new start to the software. One of my first projects was a simple tutorial about removing unwanted background elements from a photo shoot. I do not have the original picture, but the original was littered with background cracks and wall elements. The tutorial was quick, but I liked the result. The way I removed the background elements was by using the patch tool. This made an outline around the part I wanted remove and took samples from around the wall to replace it.

This was important as I had no idea how easy it was to doctor a photo, and how clean the image appears. My second big project I liked was the landscape collage. This project turned out very well and looked absolutely awesome. As an aspiring movie director, the image inspires me with many movie ideas. I still would have liked to fix some pieces of the collage, but I was given positive feedback. With every skill we learned in photoshop, I was surprised that  I retained the required knowledge and am impressed with this project. The method I used involved layering the image and turning the opacity down to make certain images seen through other layers. Finally, to get some elements to appear bigger, I used the clone stamp to copy clouds into a larger shape.

My time in class was not valued by myself as much as it should have been, but I have figured out what gets me distracted and to avoid it. I have learned that just getting started and pushing gets projects done fairly fast. With my time usually growing thin, I learned when to leave good enough alone. I also came to use after school time, which I found is sometimes necessary just to pass a class. To improve, I just need to focus.

My greatest strength in the field of graphic design, would be my vision of what a project should look like. I love to imagine how everything looks and attempt to put it on the screen. This has resulted in many successes and my best work. My infographic is currently in good status as my ideas are doing very well-because i did not get distracted.

My greatest weakness would probably be a want for my work to be easy, and end up cutting corners. This is something I have gotten better at and will endeavor to fix for the new semester. i also need to stay focused and will spend as much time after school as I need to complete what needs to be done.

Currently, I am working on an infographic about the halftrack, a very sophisticated piece of military equipment used in WW2. This project is by far my favorite and I look forward to continuing it. For my actual halftracks, I found pictures online and simply copied them by tracing them using the pen tool. The others were a matter of shaping and fills, which were very fun to organize. There are still imperfections in these models, but they are so minor and such a headache to fix that I will choose to let them stand. some of the hardest parts of this project was the fenders and getting the curves right. This was very difficult, but I was able to complete it through means of the direct selection tool and the curve tool. I am still not finished, but I plan to be working on it thoroughly next semester.
